Current Job Openings

MANAGEMENT ANALYST: (SALARY RANGE 33: $110,928 – $134,844 annually)

AHA is expanding its housing services and as a result is seeking several exceptional, team-oriented candidates to work at the Management Analyst level. Management Analysts work on a wide range of analytical, management, and technical assignments supporting AHA operations and programs, and will have the opportunity to perform meaningful and impactful work for an agency dedicated to providing affordable housing in the most impacted region of the nation.

All candidates must have excellent analytical, written and presentation skills. However, the skills experience for each department may differ slightly (see below). Candidates will be considered for all open positions but should indicate in their supplemental answers which department/s they would prefer to be considered for. Successful candidates will, over time,  be provided with projects outside of their department as well to increase their overall knowledge of the agency. They will also sit on various agency wide committees and panels. All candidates are expected to become certified on the Housing Choice Voucher Program within 6 months if not already certified.

  • One of the positions currently open is in the Housing Programs Department , This position focuses on the support of the Housing Choice Voucher Program and related programs. Candidates must have prior experience with the Housing Choice Voucher Program. Yardi or other housing software skills are required.

  • One of the positions currently open is in the Data and Policy Department. This position works on data and policy issues across the agency, including Moving To Work (MTW) Candidates must have excellent data management skills and demonstrated ability to interpret policy/regulations. Housing and/or Yardi experience are preferred but not required. For exceptional candidates with the requisite experience and education, this position may be filled at the Senior Management Analyst level.
  • One of the positions currently open is in the Property Operations Department. This position works on data, policy and compliance issues impacting the agency’s growing 700+ units of affordable housing, Candidates must have LIHTC asset management, property management or compliance experience. Yardi or other housing software skills are required.

HR MANAGER : (SALARY RANGE 45: $148,656 – $180,684 annually)
HR MANAGEMENT ANALYST (SALARY RANGE 33: $110,928 – $134,844 annually)

AHA is seeking an exceptional, team-oriented candidate to work at the Human Resources Manager level or HR Management Analyst level, depending on qualifications. The candidate hired to either position will work on a wide range of analytical, management, and technical assignments supporting AHA Human Resources operations and programs, including human resources administration, employee relations, recruitment and selection, classification, compensation, benefits, and employee related risk management. The candidate hired will report to the Director of Human Resources.

SENIOR CONSTRUCTION PROJECT MANAGER : (SALARY RANGE 45: $148,656 – $180,684 annually)
CONSTRUCTION PROJECT MANAGER (SALARY RANGE 36: $119,304 – $145,020 annually)

The Housing Authority is seeking a team-oriented candidate to oversee projects and initiatives in support of the Alameda Housing Authority (AHA)’s affordable housing developments to be hired at the Senior Construction Project Manager or Construction Project Manager level, depending on qualifications.  This may include rehabilitation of properties, re-use and updating of Authority facilities, and administration of financing/funding for projects that are funded through a variety of private, federal, state and local sources.

RISK CONTROL MANAGER : (SALARY RANGE 45: $12,388 – $15,057 monthly)

The Housing Authority is seeking an exceptional, team-oriented candidate to work as the Agency’s Risk Control Manager.  This position will provide agency-wide risk management procedures, policies and analysis to assist various Housing Authority programs and projects, and will have the opportunity to perform meaningful and impactful work for an agency dedicated to providing affordable housing in the most impacted region of the nation.

AHA welcomes applications from experienced professionals to help support existing staff and teams. Retired CalPERS annuitants are also welcome to apply. These positions are generally part time (less than 20 hours a week) and/or short term (maximum 900 hours in any fiscal year). Salary will be determined at the time a specific need is identified, and will be within a comparable wage range on the AHA Pay Schedule (a link can be accessed above).

Candidates must have significant expertise in one or more of the following areas to be considered:

  • Affordable Housing Development
  • Asset Management
  • Property Management
  • Capital improvement projects
  • Finance
  • Yardi or Laserfiche administration or other IT project management
  • Management Analyst work
  • Personnel or project management in the public sector, preferably in California

Experience in the affordable housing or public sector is preferred. Candidates must have a track record of being able to work independently with limited supervision/direction, and have a history of exempt status work in prior positions. Strong computer skills are needed for this position (including Word, Excel, and Outlook); some positions may require Yardi proficiency.

Please note these are not training or entry level positions and some in office work in Alameda will be required, generally on Wednesdays.

About the recruitment process:

The Housing Authority of the City of Alameda (AHA) recruitment process generally consists of the following steps for permanent hires. The interview process may differ for temporary hires, for exempt staff positions, or in circumstances in which an outside recruiter is being used. The specific order below may also differ depending on the type of position and number of candidates. AHA reserves the right to interview candidates as they apply.

  1. Application: Candidates fill out the AHA application and submit answers to supplemental questions (if required). Candidates are asked to closely read the job description before applying. AHA’s website is also a useful resource. 
  2. First interview: This is usually held via online video, for roughly 30-45 minutes.
  3. Online Testing – Candidates complete online testing through an AHA vendor. Candidates should watch for this in their email. This may be sent before or after the first interview. 
  4. Second interview – This is held in person at our offices at 701 Atlantic Avenue and a written test that is specific to the position is also done at the same time. Candidates should allow 2 hours in total. (Note: for some positions, a third interview or tour of the properties is held).
  5. References: Three references are required.These may be checked before the first or second interview. Please include prior supervisors in your list of references. 
  6. Offer: Conditional offers are made in writing by HR. Generally, offers are time limited (2 business days). 
  7. Background check: This is done after acceptance of the offer and before the start date.  
  8. Start date: New hires start on Monday (unless Monday is a holiday). The start date is usually no sooner than 2 weeks from the offer date. If a candidate needs a later start date, they should indicate that in the application form.
