The Housing Authority of the City of Alameda(AHA),in partnership with the entire community, advocates and provides quality, affordable, safe housing; encourages self-sufficiency; and strengthens community inclusiveness and diversity in housing.

The Housing Authority of the City of Alameda shall continue to be recognized for creatively seeking ways to expand the availability of affordable housing throughout Alameda, for caring professional staff, and excellent service provided fairly to all.

AHA as Community Partner
Over the decades AHA has grown its portfolio to include over 880 affordable rental homes with an additional 700+ homes currently in its development/acquisition pipeline. For over 80 years, The Housing Authority of the City of Alameda (AHA) has provided a range of housing assistance to low-income households in this San Francisco Bay Area city of 76,000. The primary goal of the Housing Authority is to provide quality, affordable, and safe housing in the City of Alameda. Its programs include Housing Choice Vouchers, Project-Based Vouchers, specialized housing assistance, Family Self-Sufficiency, affordable real estate development, resident services, and management of AHA-owned properties.
A Brief History
The Housing Authority was originally established in 1940 to meet the need for housing produced by the Naval Air Station’s implementation during World War II. At that time, AHA owned over 5,000 housing units in Alameda, but the majority of the housing was demolished after World War II ended. As time went on AHA re-established its housing portfolio to include over 845 affordable rental homes with an additional 700+ homes currently in its development/acquisition pipeline by 2030. Today, AHA also provides up to 1,900 Housing Choice Vouchers to low-income families in the City of Alameda. The Housing Authority is still evolving and expanding its programs and services. In January 2022, AHA was selected to the Landlord Incentives cohort of the Move to Work (MTW) Demonstration Program.
